Rahul loves throwing curve balls. Like when he decided to take up a job in advertising after completing his B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Mumbai, in the mid-90’s.
Before co-founding Open in 2011, he played client manager and strategic planner while leading agency teams on a variety of national and international brands across categories.
At Open, he plays brand owner. Guiding clients to maximize the potential of their businesses, by leveraging their most valuable asset – their brand. And guiding the agency team to focus on success – brand success.
He believes that a powerful brand idea is a form of energy – it moves businesses, business owners and the world.
He loves being in the business of creating energy. He looks forward to building Open as an institution that excels at creating brand energy for businesses.
Founder & Partner
Mangesh has been a part of the advertising and design world for more than two decades. He has been through the corridors of Enterprise, Trikaya, Contract, Rediffusion and Lemon, been declared designer of the year for three consecutive years, won and been on the jury of numerous national and international awards and helped build brands such as Louis Phillipe, Shoppers Stop, Cadbury, Taj Hotels, ICICI Bank, UB Group and Benzer amongst others.
His passion for design extends beyond advertising. He co-founded one of the most reputed Art and culture magazines to come out of India - Gallerie. In its 16 years of existence, the magazine has won many Indian and international awards for editorial design.
In 2013, he started Miami Ad School Mumbai. It was born out of a belief that agencies are no more the grooming schools they used to be and new student-industry interfaces need to be put in place.
Mangesh believes India now needs design to evolve. Almost everything from roads, cityscape, fashion, lifestyle to behaviour, education system and housing need to be redesigned.
Mangesh enjoys long walks by the seaside and he loves fish, on his plate.
Design Head & Partner
After two decades of having worked across advertising, design and digital with some of the leading agencies in India and abroad, what Ashutosh is most proud of is the variety of work he has created. He feels it is important for creativity to always be on its feet and not get wedded to a medium. It is also, according to him, the only way of ensuring ‘purposive creativity’ that drives business.
Before joining Open, Ashutosh was the creative head at Saatchi & Saatchi, Mumbai. His work has benefited brands across the spectrum, notably Britannia, Unilever, HSBC, Asian Paints, Economic Times, Kingfisher Airlines, Tata Nano, Tata Sky, Springwell Mattress and P&G, helping him win pretty much every major national and international creative award around.
Photography is the other big passion of Ashutosh. He likes to see the world through his lens, and says no place is too remote and no person unknown to go to for the perfect shot. His work has been featured in the National Geographic Worldwide Photography Contest (Editors’ Choice) and won at Spikes.
He loves travelling, but nothing, in his book, beats going home to his boys and spending time with them.
Brand Strategy Head & Managing Partner
Asparsh believes that the only business of branding is to deliver non-linear growth. A software engineer by education, he heads Brand Strategy at Open. The biggest challenge, according to him, is not in spotting an opportunity and creating a sharp proposition, but in delivering it in surprising new ways.
Before joining Open, Asparsh was heading strategy on the Marico business portfolio at BBH, where he helped Marico expand its business substantially through new launches.
Over the years he has helped brands such as Asian Paints, Cadbury, HSBC, Shoppers Stop, Tata Indicom and Godrej make better sense of themselves and their landscape.
Asparsh is usually found surrounded by text, technology and Brit alternative rock.
Culture Strategy Head & Managing Partner
Puneet heads culture strategy at Open. He sees culture as a system of biases and helps his brands develop better instincts in gauging these biases. He is deeply interested in structures in flux and finds the play between deep-rooted context and fast clip change, as India is experiencing now, exciting and fertile for brands building.
For over a decade that he has spent in the business, Puneet has looked at consumer strategy space from various vantage points - as a qualitative researcher (at IMRB), as a communication strategist (at Contract Advertising) and as a brand strategy consultant (with Future Brands). In this time, he has helped locate the strategic ground of some of the leading brands across categories like F&B (Pepsi, Kellogg’s, Cadbury’s), motoring (Royal Enfield), FMCG (Wild Stone) and fashion (Madura, Future group in-house brands).
Puneet loves wheels, especially when they are in their simplest form – the bicycle. He wants to see the world on his bicycle. According to him it is the most visceral way to traverse a land and its culture.
Marketing Strategy Head & Managing Partner
Amit’s career path has been a journey of playing roles that help build marketing strategy on the back of consumer intelligence. He loves the job of finding the right expression for the brand and then deploying it in the real world. He has unflinching faith in the consumer’s ability to discern and reward brands that are able to build empathy.
Amit started as a qualitative researcher with IMRB, where he helped brands like Motorola, Pepsi and Bacardi get a sharper understanding of the Indian consumer. He then moved on to Bharti Walmart and was part of the strategic team responsible for building the brand in India from ground up.
Over the last 13 years, Amit has had marketing stints across Retail, Life Insurance and Consumer Durables. Before joining OPEN, he was heading marketing at Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance.
Amit is fond of unearthing ways of forming unlikely partnerships, and is often the go-to-guy on all things food and alcohol.
